Bar George opens on Maybank Highway

Because restaurants and bars are slowly reopening in South Carolina, new establishment Bar George decided to open its patio over the weekend, so customers could partake in expertly crafted cocktails, raw oysters, Peruvian roast chicken, and more.

While Bar George is only open for takeout and outdoor dining at this time, Eater photographer Leslie Ryann McKellar got a sneak preview of the dining room and bar.

The interiors at 1956 Maybank Highway, Unit E, are a hip upgrade from the previous tenant, Bowties Speakeasy. With wood paneling, a neon sign, pinball machines, and a yellow velvet couch, it looks like chic bachelor pad from the 1970s, but with a better bar. The outside is full of thriving plants and pops of orange from the bike racks. Co-owner Alex Lira says that he wants this to be a neighborhood spot, so the bicycle parking makes sense.

Take a look here at what’s probably soon to be a hot spot in Charleston, Bar George.
